Windows Vista + Windows 7

Some people might have troubled with freelancer on windows vista and windows 7.

I'm gonna list some problems that might occur and the way to fix em:

If you encounter any problems that arent listed here or the solution i gave you didnt help please respond to this thread with a screenshot of the problem and a discription of your problem.

The Updater tells me it cannot create a folder or file:
Right click the updater and click "Run as Administrator"

To fix this problem without having to click it every time:
- Right click the updater and click properties.
- Go to the compatibility tab.
- tick the box "Run this program as Administrator.

Freelancer wont connect to any servers:
Disable windows defender:
> start
> control panel
> windows defender > disable

then

> start
> type msconfig and hit enter
> services and look for windows defender and disable
> then click the start up tab and look for windows defender ones again and disable

congratulations, you have disabled windows defender

Disable user account management:
> start
> control panel
> user accounts
> user account management enable or disable
> disable

congratulations, you have disabled user account management

Disable windows firewall:
> start
> control panel
> windows firewall > disable

then

> start
> type msconfig and hit enter
> services and look for windows firewall and disable

congratulations u have disabled windows firewall

Disable IPv6:
This one is a little trickier but i will try to explain.

> start
> control panel
> network center
> click manage network connections
> right click on your Internet connection
> properties
> clear the check-box on Internet protocol version 6
> click ok

then

> start
> regedit
> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
> SYSTEM
> CurrentControlSet
> Services
> tcpip6
> Parameters
> right click Parameters
> New DWORD type
> name it DisabledComponents and make sure u name it exactly that including capitals
> double click DisabledComponents
> type FF and hit ok

Congratulations u have disabled IPv6

now restart the computer to make the changes have effect

Hi

I have a new problem.
The Updater tells me, that he can't find the path C:\Date\Constants.ini
Interesting is, when I shut down the Windows Firewall (like described here), the Updater doesn't do anything at all and breaks down after some time...
Is there any way for me to download the newest mod manually? It's just for my Laptop where I will use FL from time to time. Would be great if there were such an option

It probebly means that your registry is not giving the updater the correct path to freelancer.

Wt you need to do is uninstall freelancer mod manager and reinstall it.

That should fix the problem.

And for the manual mod downloading.
Im planning on having several updates every month.
Downloading the mod manually everytime is gonna be rly anoying.

If it's trouble for you to put in online that often, I understand. No way to do that via automated means? If it's no problem for you, you wouldn't have to worry about that
Just an idea though, as I seem to be the only one having trouble with this so far

I just got a new comp with win7, I have done a full install of FL and FLMM 3 times as well as disable windows firewall and defender. 1 more thing, what anti virus works with win 7 and FL I deleted Norton and need to replace it
Also, I can not fint the tab to run as administrator on updater. Am I missing something, or is it not there?

You don't have the option Run as admin when you right click the updater?
Is your User Account Control active? It used to create problems for me in the past

About the anti virus, I'm using Avast (it's free )

Ty for that last bit of info, everything loaded (i.e.) the mod, only prob now is i do not see UU on server list and yes, i loaded the FL server work around.

U need to click multiplayer then internet.

And u probebly wernt the only 1 not finding it. I just checked the status and it was offline (booting it up now)
